Tranter Shiraz is our flagship wine, a tribute to a pioneering Australian, returned WWI soldier George Edwin Tranter who once owned our land. First made in 2008, this medium to full-bodied shiraz showcases Heathcote’s trademark minerality, depth of flavor and intensity.
90% de-stemmed and 10% fermented as whole bunches, with batches fermented separately in open top stainless steel, concrete (stainless steel lined) and 4 year-old 5000L French Oak fermenters. Batches remained on skins for 14 to 64 days, with hand or pneumatic plunging daily during fermentation. Matured for 16 months prior to blending and bottling in a combination of French oak puncheons, demi muids and barriques and a small portion older American oak barriques.
